16 Thoughts to “U.S. Battered By Cold And Record Snow; Parts Of Ontario Under A Meter Of Snow; Early-December To Deliver Another Burial To Europe; + Solar Decline”
Please note that a meter is for measuring electric current and gas usage. Length is measured in METRES!
Meanwhile, England has been enjoying relatively balmy weather up into the 50’sF. No sign of snow in the south west.
Which is correct, meter or metre?
Meter vs. Metre: What’s the Difference?
Meter is the American English spelling for the unit of length as well as the measurement device. Metre is the spelling adopted by British English and other English-speaking countries for the same measurement unit and, within the context of poetry, the rhythm structure.
The term metre is French (1670) and is used around the world to mean length. The root is the Latin mētrum, not mēterum. The reason it has a French origin is because the whole metric system was invented in France. The standard metre is a physical one metre long bar in France. The reason English uses metre for distance and meter for an instrument is because English is 40% French and they don’t have a problem with that.
Warm air can hold more water. Big snowfall requires this. As the planet cools, it tends to become drier. The ice cores show a lot of dust at various times, a sign of more desert.
So far this December is certainly starting out much colder than last year at this time! Only 43/24 yesterday with some snow flurries – compared to 60’s/40’s in East Tennessee in early Dec 2023. It fell to 20F here on Nov 30th – the first significant freeze of the season. Now that’s much better!
Mt Hood Oregon ski area temp was 52F yesterday 42F now 8am no new snow for six days. It was 60F Oregon Coast, warmer than ave forecast this week. My lawn is green 6am West of Seattle 25 miles, no rain forecast until Friday. Nice weather all week. 55F forecast S Dakota tomorrow, 53F in Montana, warmer than ave. Not cold everywhere.
Here in Missouri we’re on the roller coaster, all normal. High tomorrow 38F, Wed 53, Thur 29. Warming over the weekend. Can’t say it’s cold here, or warm — because it’s both!

Vancouver BC different setup. Cold sinks down the Frasier River canyon. Columbia Gorge and Portland different setup. Temp trends down there after new year. Many microclimates ‘ere, some trend warmer. Salt water across the street is 600’ deep. Fresh Ocean water comes in with the tide everyday, temp now 53F. There’s miles of oyster farms, thousands of people out working tonight because the tide is out. Tons of high dollar product moving. And clams. Aquaculture. Tree farms on the hills, oysters at the shoreline, Year round high production farmers. I went to college for aquaculture 50 years ago. Wanted to put tidal turbines in for power. PUD picked the same spot ten years later after years of studies. $$$$$$ Never built any.

“Does a rise in temperature increase rainfall?
One often comes across the statement from scientists and the media that
increasing temperatures lead to an increase in rainfall, as a warmer
atmosphere holds more moisture.
The amount is calculated at a 7% increase per 1C rise in temperatures
using the Clausius-Clapeyron equation.”

Who cares? Americans use FEET so pffffttt!
Actually YARDS would be the most similar measure to metres!
It sounds like the cold hard facts are starting to pile up.
Oh man…those drums are getting worn out!

Less than three weeks till the days start getting longer, Think Spring 😎
Yes, but unfortunately there is considerable lag before temps start going up again.

Alaska still has the most snow forecast on the planet, 12 feet next ten days from cyclones in the Pacific Ocean. NW US here will get lots of snow this year going into La Nina. Oh goody.
